J.U. Blacksher School, named after James Uriah Blacksher, was established in 1924 in Uriah, Ala. Since our humble beginnings in a small, farming community, we have grown to serve south Monroe County Alabama with more than 700 students in K4-12th grade.

We have a 19:1 teacher-to-student ratio, with a total minority enrollment of almost 33 percent. Services provided to our students include special education, gifted and talent programs, career and technical training, college dual enrollment, athletics, and several clubs and organizations.
